First: Consider experiences in two different ways: 1. Experiences are entities that hold meaning for the user and their surroundings. 2. Experiences are performances or processes that involve interactions with space, materials, knowledge, and other elements.

Put yourself in the shoes of your users

How does their experience unfold over time? What interactions and touchpoints are involved? What emotions do they experience throughout the process? Map it!

Take a closer look at your map

Are there any peaks in the user's journey? How does the experience conclude? Is there a moment of high value for the user? What makes this moment stand out? Be sure to mark these significant moments on your map. Feel free to share your map with colleagues and gather feedback on your insights.

What difference you want to make?

Consider the significance that you want your users to derive from their experience. Which elements of the experience (such as interactions, materials, knowledge, process, etc.) might contribute to this meaning? Some of these elements may need to be added, while others may simply require rearranging or tweaking within the existing experience.

Start scribbling
